artist statement

In the images that I am experimenting with, I am putting together a few simple motifs/ideas.
The first is time. The old man sitting in the chair is symbolic of our time as people on this earth. He is adorn with spanish moss creating a faux-beard. It i the nature of human existence to become old and it is this nature that we try so hard to fight. Another aspect of this struggle with nature can be seen in our homes. We take what we want from the land with little regard to the consequences of our actions. Here the house is being overwhelmed by the force of nature. When our time is spent, nature will move back in and take back what was once its own. The main scene is an agricultural setting. This scene is important because of the way we use nature and how we abuse it.

free writing

My childhood home is build by little hand that grip the saw and hammers and soon to torn to shreds by the winds
The air is stagnant here and is smells of death… it is here
O the smell of seared fleshing the morning, oh how that squirrel was good, it bones were hard and so was the words that my father said to me as the tornado come down our street… we will all most certainly die, I have said this before, what I have always wanted to say. I could eat them all and drink their souls from the cup of god and then I will live forever when I am buried under the 2 tons of earth. Here the fruits will grow up from me and I will be in them and forever will I be eaten. I taste good. Why have I killed myself here, why now, why at all? It was for the better good, only evil could come of that one. And so t did. It spawned as a clone, the same but worse and better at the same time. Oh the glory, the roar of the people as I cast another in to the pit. They cheer, for if they did not they would receive the same fate. What a glorious fate, to die for what no one believes in.

What is there to explore?

The exploration of the mind, body and soul. There are many desires that we all have, that we do not even know how to deal with. These desires are the ones that I am addressing in this piece. Our desires sometimes become almost lustful, almost dangerous pursue. The pursuit of knowledge, happiness, belonging, and self realization are just a few thing that can cause severe confusion and depression. Not finding the things we need and desire can lead us in to acceptance of ideals that give us the answers that we need, wether they are the right answers or not. We cannot help but to fall short or our desires, because there is always more to be had.
The clouds give a feeling or confusion and also clarity. This paradox leads us into our adventure in to the endless universe of desires. The clearing in the clouds all have images that I would like to leave up to interpretation. The red color is a distant tree, a red maple that is blurred out or recognition. Placement of the tree is to add to the idea of confusion and uncertainty.

Tropism, the change in movement or makeup due to an internal or external stimulus. The stimulus could be the sun, for example. Many plants will bend and move towards the sun light. They want to achieve just the right amount to UV input. Tropism due to an internal stimulus could be a virus or variance in genetic makeup. Viruses can cause cellular tropism which leads to transformation or mutation. Mutations can also occur when a gene randomly changes due to unusual environmental conditions or just for no reason at all. Due to this tropism in the plants, genetically strong and adaptable plants will like and the others will die. This is the basis of evolution and the exact process that lead to the initial notion that things change for a reason. Tropism in plants creates new and better varieties, this creation is nature's art.

assignment 1

There are many realms in which desire exists. Desire affects all of the human emotions. Our desire arises from our greed and need for position. Everyone will always have desires, since they cannot posses everything. The need for emotional acceptance is the cause for our emotional desires. Our desire to pursue acceptance leads us into a deeper and darker search of love. This path, even if love is found and possessed, is a never ending one. There is rarely a time when a person does not have doubts or feels less accepted or less loved. Because of the existence of these times, desire cannot really be fulfilled. This example is true for almost everting. Material desires, for example, can be lessened, however they can not be stopped. The human desire to posses make us want, that want makes us not want to share (or at least not with everyone). Desire is found in all levels of our cognitive and unconscious thoughts. These thoughts can not be controlled, however it up to the person to act on them. The ability or restraint and control over our desires is what makes us civilized.

What I went through

My first thoughts were about power over the weak. So I looked up pictures of little girls and pedophile looking men. That ended up being kinda creepy... though some people thought it was a good subject... anyways. I then moved on to the power of government over the people. I thought it was a overdone, but then again there is alway a new way of doing things. I wanted to show the power of people or the people's power being turned against the destructive force that is our government. So way a better way to portray that than a picture of bush. I tried many different way of portraying power, but I like what I have finally come up with the best.
